Nine truckloads of construction materials were today permitted, by Egyptian authorities, to travel through the Rafah Crossing and in to the Gaza Strip to help with Qatari projects in the area.

Seven of the trucks were loaded with 362 tons of construction metal and two others had gravel.

The Rafah Crossing has been closed for approximately one month. It was opened ten days ago to allow pilgrims out of the Strip and reopened to allow them to return.

Palestinian officials said that the crossing works only for few hours and only 400 pilgrims were allowed into Gaza yesterday.

Relatives of an old couple returning from Makkah told MEMO that they were incarcerated in the airport and have been waiting to travel to Gaza for two days.

Others, who have returned, said they passed through strict security measures and mistreatment by the Egyptian security forces during their travel in and out of Egypt.
