Egyptian court to hear an appeal against Brotherhood 'terrorist' label

April 12, 2014 at 11:10 am

The Egyptian administrative court has scheduled Tuesday to hear a lawsuit demanding the overturning of the decision to label the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group, judicial sources told Anadolu news agency Sunday.

Hamed Seddik, a professor at the state-owned National Center for Research, has filed a lawsuit against the military-appointed Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and the Public Prosecutor Hisham Barakat.

Seddik mentioned in the lawsuit that “the decision [to label MB tua terrorist group] is a violation of the law and discriminates among citizens of one nation.” He added that the decision is “unfounded” and that it “constitutes a violation of all democratic norms and the objectives of the January 25 revolution, because it labels a group that has existed in Egypt for decades as terrorist.”
