Egyptian pharmacists and doctors begin partial strike in 514 hospitals

April 12, 2014 at 9:43 am

Pharmacists, medical doctors, and dentists have staged a partial strike since the early hours of Saturday in 514 hospitals run by the Ministry of Health in Egypt. The strike comes in response to the government’s insistence on ratifying the “medical jobs regulation” bill, dubbed in the media as “the incentives bill” as an alternative to the original “doctors’ cadre” law.

Veterinarians working in administrative departments across the country also joined the strike.

The strike includes all hospitals and medical centres run by the Ministry of Health, including educational, general, central and health insurance hospitals. However, it does not include university hospitals and emergency medical services of all types.
