FJP spokesman: Ashton's endorsement of Egypt's coup irrelevant

The Freedom and Justice leader and member of the Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy Alliance Hamza Zawbaa said that the stance of the European Union regarding the coup and upcoming elections are “irrelevant” for the Egyptian revolutionaries.

“Ashton is trying to whitewash the coup commander Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi,” Zawbaa said in an interview with Al-Jazeera Friday.

Zawbaa added that Egyptians will not recognize any elections run by the military coup authorities. “The coup elections are null. We will not recognize them no matter what happens,” he said. He hailed the anti-coup protesters “persistent in the streets for the 9th month”.
