From his trial, Muslim Brotherhood leader urges supporters to remain peaceful

April 12, 2014 at 1:48 pm

The General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badie, told Muslim Brotherhood supporters and opponents of the coup during his trial Saturday that they should remain peaceful and avoid violence.

The plea comes after Al-Sisi’s presidency bid announcement this week.

“Don’t let the candidacy of Al-Sisi provoke you to resort to violence. Stay peaceful,” he asked his lawyer to deliver this message.

Badie also said that Al-Sisi’s candidacy proves that Morsi’s ouster was a military coup rather than a revolution, and that Al-Sisi is power hungry.

The Muslim Brotherhood has gone through a similar experience under Nasser’s rule. However, Badie said, they remained peaceful. “We are passing through the same conditions, and we will remain patient and will never resort to violence,” he said.

Saturday’s session has been adjourned till April 6.
