Gaza youths demand Rafah Crossing be opened

April 12, 2014 at 10:20 am

A number of young Palestinian called on the Egyptian Authorities to open the Rafah Crossing and facilitating the movement for Palestinians in and out of the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at a press conference today, the spokesman for the group, Yahya Zainul-Deen, said: “Gaza has been under a strict siege for eight years and no one has ever seriously moved towards lifting it.”

He added: “Since the beginning of this year, the crossing has only been opened nine days…The number of Palestinians who have registered that they want to leave is 6,000.”

Approximately one month ago the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior said it would give the chance for people to apply for travel.

Zainul-Deen said that at least 2,000 of those registered for travel are patients, students and workers, employed aboard, who face the threat of being sacked.

On Saturday, the teens lunched a hashtag campaign on Facebook and Twitter under: #بكفي_حصار (We’re fed up of the Siege)
