Hamas tells supporters to defy arrest attempts

April 12, 2014 at 2:19 pm

Members and supporters of Hamas should not abide by arrest orders made by security services in the West Bank, an official from the Islamic movement said yesterday.

In a press release Hamas official Fawzi Barhoum said all activists, youth and the supporters of Hamas and the resistance from all factions must refrain from abiding by any attempts to arrest them or kidnap them. They must also confront attempts to pursue them, spy on them, arrest them, or harm their property.

“We call on all our people and resistance factions in the West Bank to work on protecting their sons and leaders, to form a popular front to protect them and to provide collective protection against any danger on them or their children and also against any violation of their freedom and dignity.”

Barhoum said that what the security apparatus is doing in the West Bank is a continuation of the occupation’s practices and violations. He spoke about the arrests made by the Palestinian Authority’s security apparatus in preparation to handing over the arrested supporters of the resistance to the Israeli occupation.

Barhoum condemned “the worst forms of coordination and security collaboration between the security apparatus of Abbas and Hamdallah and the Israeli occupation.”

He hailed Hamas’ members and leaders and also West Bank residents who still cling to the resistance. “In their campaign against Hamas and its supporters, [Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud] Abbas and [Palestinian Prime Minister Rami] Hamdallah have kidnapped 145 persons in March alone, which is a national crime and a violation of all values, morals and norms. They are destroying the foundations for reconciliation and unity and they are running all national ties and relations that bond the Palestinian people together.

Hamas’ spokesperson put the blame on Fatah, its security bodies in the West Bank and Abbas and his ministers, holding them responsible for all the repercussions of these violations.

He said he is surprised that human rights organisations are staying silent to all these violations and crimes against Palestinians’ freedoms and dignity.
