Hamas welcomes Abbas' decision to sign UN treaties

April 12, 2014 at 2:17 pm

The Hamas led government in the Gaza Strip has welcomed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s decision yesterday to sign requests to join 15 UN international treaties saying the decision should have come earlier.

Hamas spokesperson Ihab Al-Ghussein said: “We were waiting for Abbas to announce the cessation of the negotiations forever in front of Israel’s intransigence and to immediately implement the reconciliation agreement.”

Al-Ghussein called on the need to have an immediate national consensus for a unified strategy to deal with the occupation based on stopping the negotiations and the adoption of the resistance as the only way to deal with the occupier.

Abbas signed Palestine’s request to join 15 international treaties in response to Israel’s refusal to release the fourth group of Palestinian prisoners.
