Hamas welcomes reconciliation efforts

April 12, 2014 at 3:49 pm

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas said the movement welcomes the Palestinian Authority’s delegation who is visiting the Gaza Strip and sincerely desires to reconcile differences.

Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri said, during a cultural festival in Rafah, that this is the most suitable period to achieve the reconciliation as the negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Israel face an impasse.

Abu Zuhri said: “It is important for the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to take serious decisions to end the division” noting that Hamas wants real unity and not another manoeuvre to push the talks forward and strengthen the Palestinian side.

He reiterated his movement’s commitment to achieve reconciliation but stressed that it wants a clear and unified position from the Palestinian Authority and to cease security coordination with Israel which threatens any efforts to achieve reconciliation.

Abu Zuhri pointed out that marking Land Day and Prisoner Day are important to remind the young generations of their rights in historic Palestine.

“We will not accept an alternative to the land of Palestine and we will not accept Sinai or any other alternative home. Any negotiations, treaties or conventions signed with Israel are void,” he concluded.
