Iran: Threats and pressure have no influence, our nuclear rights must be acknowledged

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marziyeh Afkham has stressed that the threats and pressures against her country have had no influence on the Iranian people and that Iran’s nuclear rights must be acknowledged.

Although Iran and the world powers have been engaged for months in what are widely thought to be promising negotiations to settle the Iranian nuclear crisis, hardliners in the US and Israel have continued to call for increased sanctions, even threatening military action.

However Afkham remarked on Sunday that “only negotiations, based on mutual respect and recognition of the absolute rights of the Iranian nation, will yield positive results,” according to Fars News Agency.

She noted that some of the analyses reached in certain US circles about the Iranian nuclear programme stem from false assumptions and incomplete information regarding the peaceful and civil components of the programme. Therefore, she described such misinformed analyses as unconstructive and dubious.

Afkham noted that in light of the continuation of the talks between Iran and the world powers, statements that rely upon the negative viewpoints of hardliners are not conducive to the diplomatic process.
