Is Britain moving to ban the Muslim Brotherhood?

April 12, 2014 at 2:00 pm

The British government has ordered an investigation into the Muslim Brotherhood’s philosophy, activities and the British government’s future policy towards the group; government officials said earlier.

Reports revealed the group has been using London as a hub for its international activities and a meeting point for its leaders.

The British Guardian newspaper quoted sources close to the Prime Minister David Cameron’s office saying the premier had ordered a deeper assessment into the Brotherhood and its values in Britain. The newspaper pointed out that Cameron is facing mounting pressure to follow the course of the Saudi and Egyptian authorities who class the group as a terrorist organisation and have banned them.

The military backed authorities in Egypt banned the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation after the military coup against President Mohammed Morsi in July. The Saudi government followed the Egyptian lead and banned the group.
