Mauritanian political party accuses regime of implementing 'regional anti-Ikhwan agenda'

An opposition party in Mauritania accused the regime of implementing a “regional agenda” that targets the Muslim Brotherhood and all its social activities.

In a press conference Saturday, Mohamed Gamil Mansour, President of Tawasol party, reiterated his party’s opposition to the closure of Al-Mostakbal NGO and other sister organizations active in philanthropic social and health fields. The organisations are believed to be affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Mauritanian authorities have started since Thursday to close down a number of Brotherhood-affiliated NGOs, including the Mostakbal association led by the prominent Mauritanian Islamic scholar Mohamed Al-Hassan Weld Al-DDo.

“We have to stand in solidarity with these institutions that operate in accordance with the law, and which fill a significant gap in the government’s deficit, both in Islamic affairs, health, counseling, or education sectors,” Mansour said.
