Netanyahu to pressure UK prime minister on Middle East issues

April 12, 2014 at 10:22 am

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning to exert much effort to persuade British Prime Minister David Cameron of the Israeli narrative about the Iranian and Palestinians issues, Israeli Radio Reshet Bet reported on Wednesday.

The report noted that Netanyahu is going to concentrate particularly on the Iranian nuclear programme when he meets with Cameron, who is visiting Israel today. He will also try to persuade Cameron that the Palestinians are to be blamed for not reaching a peace agreement until now.

According to the radio report, Cameron is also going to meet with Israeli President Shimon Peres, deliver a speech in the Knesset and visit Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum.

Netanyahu is expected to present evidence to Cameron that Iran is involved in the weapons shipment, which Israel claims was heading to the Gaza Strip.

Regarding the negotiations with the Palestinians, the Israeli prime minister is expected to reinforce his country’s alleged desire to have peace, but insist that the problem is with the Palestinians, “who undermine any chance to reaching any reconciliation agreement.”

A number of opposition parties are planning to boycott Cameron’s speech in the Knesset as a protest against a series of recent draft laws discussed by its members. The radio reported that the British embassy fears that the boycott might end up embarrassing Cameron.
