Palestinians denounce Israeli rhetoric regarding failure of peace talks

April 12, 2014 at 3:28 pm

Palestinian Foreign Ministry today denounced Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s remarks when he said “Palestinians will pay the price” for turning to the international community.

In a statement, the ministry said: “Israeli remarks and positions, in which it puts the responsibility for failure of talks on the Palestinians and threatens to impose a series of sanctions on them, proves that there were pre-planned attempts to deteriorate the situation.”

According to the statement, Israel’s refusal to release the fourth batch of Palestinian prisoners as agreed before the resumption of the latest round of peace talks lead to the Palestinians turning to international bodies. The statement also said that these remarks amount to an “organised, unilateral state terrorism”.

“Israel wanted the Palestinians to recognise it a Jewish state and extend talks beyond the agreed deadline,” the statement said.

In addition, the statement said Israel candidly expresses its position regarding the potential peace deal saying: “It has to be based on the continuation of settlement, Judaising Jerusalem, dividing Al-Aqsa Mosque and refusing the right of return and the Arab Peace Initiative.”
