PFLP criticises Abbas for continuing 'futile peace talks'

The Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) yesterday criticised the Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas for his continuous meetings with Israel and American officials over “futile peace talks”.

The prominent leader of the PFLP in the Gaza Strip Jameel Mizhir called for Abbas to cancel his meeting due to be held today with US President Barack Obama and to “immediately” stop the continuous peace talks with Israel.

“The meeting between Abbas and Obama is considered a net profit for Israel and the US administration,” Mizhir said. He noted that the purpose of such meetings is “no more than to put pressure on Abbas to accept the proposed US framework agreement.”

Mizhir described the US framework agreement as a “recipe prescribed for liquidating the Palestinian issue, rights and principles, especially the right of return.” Therefore, he called for an “immediate halt” of these “futile” negotiations.

The PFLP leader went on to criticised Abbas for turning his back on the national consensus. “Palestinians refuse the continuation of talks and putting all eggs in the basket of talks with the Israeli occupation,” he said.

He also called for the Palestinian factions to continue putting pressure on the PA leadership in order to push it to stop negotiating with the occupation. He noted that the appropriate alternative for “futile and absurd talks” is the Palestinian reunion.

Mizhir suggested a “comprehensive Palestinian national strategy for political and military confrontation with the Israeli occupation.”
