Polisario: UNSC to blame if negotiations with Morocco fail

April 12, 2014 at 3:21 pm

If the UN Security Council does not bear responsibility for ending the occupation in the Western Sahara, Morocco will continue hindering negotiations with the Polisario Front, the organisation’s representative to the UN Ahmed Bukhari said.

In a letter he sent to the UNSC, Bukhari said that this would reinforce what he called “illegal occupation for the Western Sahara by Morocco.”

UNSC is to convene in April 17 to discuss the issue with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to the Sahara Christopher Ross before taking a decision regarding this issue at the end of the month.

An Algerian newspaper said the UNSC’s role is represented in maintaining international peace and safety, as well as ending occupations.
