Pro-coup cleric blames Brotherhood for Nahda bombing

April 12, 2014 at 2:35 pm

The former Egyptian Mufti Sheikh Ali Gomaa, famous for his incitement to kill anti-coup protesters, held the Muslim Brotherhood responsible for the bombings that hit Nahda Square in Giza governorate Wednesday.

The Muslim Brotherhood, however, condemned the bombing and all other violent attacks since the July 3 coup, holding the military-backed government responsible. The Brotherhood routinely stresses that it adheres to peacefulness in its struggle against the coup. A group called Agnad Masr claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s attacks.

Gomaa called on the media to label the MB as a “terrorist group” and not to be neutral towards them. “This organisation has been lying since 1942,” Gomaa said.

Moreover, Gomaa blamed the education system in Egypt for the spread of “deviant ideology”, calling for the reform of education to counter such ideas.
