Syrian regime strikes Palestinian refugee camps

April 12, 2014 at 9:49 am

Amid a deteriorating crisis, the result of a strict siege, on Friday several mortar shells landed in the Palestinian refugee camp of Al-Yarmouk.

In a statement the Palestinian Action Group said that one of the mortars landed in the main highway of the camp and another in Haifa Street. The mortar attacks coincided with clashes between the Free Syrian Army and the Syrian regime forces, where light weapons were used.

According to the Acton Group, the refugees in the camp have been living under a siege imposed by the Syrian regime forces and the Palestinian Popular Front General Leadership for more than eight months. The siege has blocked food and medical supplies entering the camp.

Meanwhile, Syrian regime warplanes have flown above Khan Al-Shiekh refugee camp. Heavy explosions in neighbouring areas, that frightened the refugees, were heard.

One of the planes dropped an explosive barrel that destroyed a number of houses in Al-Sobaih neighbourhood near to the refugee camp. More explosions, also the result of explosive barrels, went off in Dara’a refugee camp.

The camp, which has been suffering from a severe shortage of food because of the chaotic security situation around and inside, also witnessed sporadic gunfire in the neighbouring suburbs. No casualties were reported.
