April 12, 2014 at 1:29 pm

On Friday the temporary Syrian government announced that it had allocated $500,000 to help opposition forces seize new land in coastal Latakia in the east of Syria, a statement said.

The statement did not specify how the financial aid would be delivered.

Since the beginning of last week Syrian opposition forces have been making considerable progress in the coastal areas of Latakia in Syria. These areas are home to the majority of Alawites, the sect Bashar al-Assad and most of his regime leaders belong to.

Strategic cities such as Kassab with its crossing to Turkey were captured by the opposition. Several other cities were also captured easily.

In the last meeting, on Friday, the temporary government decided to form a number of ministries to follow up joint projects with the EU, the US, and some of the Gulf States. The ministries would carry out development projects in areas controlled by the opposition.

Regarding health care projects, the government allocated $100,000 for Izaz field hospital. It also established a centre for teacher training and asked the ministry of education to prepare a complete plan for the project.

The temporary government is formed from the Syrian opposition coalition and is temporarily based in a Turkish city.
