Tunis regains $40 million deposited by former officials in Swiss banks

The Tunisian government has succeeded in regaining around $40 million from money smuggled out of the country by the former regime, and into Swiss banks reports have said.


The Tunisian government requested that Switzerland cooperate with them on the issue of the smuggled money, which was frozen in the Swiss banks.

According to the reports, the $40 million were returned to Tunis based on this application.

In wake of the Tunisian Revolution in January 2011, the Swiss government froze around $68.5 million from the money deposited in its banks by former Tunisian officials.
