The Tunisian Congress for the Republic (CPR) party called for banning leading members of the former regime from taking part in the upcoming elections.

The Secretary General of the CPR Emad El-Daimy said in press statements Sunday that his party launched “a national campaign to incorporate the political isolation concept into the electoral law, which is scheduled to be discussed in the National Constituent Assembly next month.”

El-Daimy pointed out that his party published an electronic petition against the return of the former regime, which according to the petition constitutes a threat to democracy and provokes Tunisians.

Rashid Al-Ghannouchi, head of the Nahda party – an ally of CPR – had said earlier that his party would not veto parties that has roots in the dissolved Democratic Constitutional Rally party, so long as they abide by the law and the constitution.
