UAE, KSA fail to impose 'Muslim Brotherhood' agenda on Arab Summit

April 12, 2014 at 12:44 pm

The low-level representation of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in the Arab Summit signals Kuwait’s failure to mend the internal Gulf rifts, diplomatic sources told Quds Press.

The sources, who requested anonymity, pointed out that Kuwait failed to alleviate the tensions between the UAE-Saudi front and Qatar regarding the Egyptian military coup. This is the main reason behind the weak representation of these countries in the 25th Arab Summit currently held in Kuwait, they explained.

The sources added that Arab leaders refused to discuss the issue of labelling the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group, which contributed to the low representation of UAE and KSA.

A number of countries, including Qatar, Sudan, Oman, and Morocco strongly opposed the inclusion of the “Muslim Brotherhood” issue in the Summit’s agenda, the sources said.
