The volume of trade between the United Kingdom and the Arab world has increased by 11 per cent in 2013 compared to the previous year, the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) agency announced today.

According to the report issued by the British government, British exports to the Arab region in 2013 increased by 12 per cent, reaching more than £18.06 billion. In addition, UK imports from the region increased by 9 per cent, reaching £17.9 billion.

The report, due to be posted on the website of the UK’s Foreign Office in Arabic next week, revealed that two-way trade of goods amounted to £39.029 billion, up 11 per cent from 2012. The statistics do not include other commercial activities.

British government spokeswoman on the Middle East and North Africa, Rosemary Davis, said the rise in joint trade between the UK and the Arab world reflects the development of relations between the two sides. She reiterated the UK’s interest in strengthening relations with the Arab region on all levels.
