US denies making decision on resuming military aid to Egypt

April 12, 2014 at 12:11 pm

US State Department spokesperson Jennifer Psaki told reporters on Thursday that the US administration has not yet decided on resuming military aid to Egypt.

Commenting on the latest communications between US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Egyptian counterpart Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, Psaki pointed out that they are in constant contact.

She stressed that the two sides regularly discuss the good relations between the two countries and the importance of the strategic relationship between Washington and Cairo, pointing out that the US is still reviewing its relations with Egypt.

On Wednesday Fahmy told Egyptian television MBC Masr that the armed forces had sent several Apache planes to the US for maintenance, but they have not yet been returned.

In October 2013, US President Barack Obama suspended the delivery of selected military equipment to Egypt pending the election of a civilian government after the July coup that ousted Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi.
