Addameer National Front denounces military's attempt to eliminate Muslim Brotherhood

Ambassador Ibrahim Yousry, the leader of Addameer National Front, has denounced the Egyptian military for trying to exclude such an important faction as the Muslim Brotherhood from Egypt’s political scene by labelling it a terrorist group.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera news channel, Yousry said: “The military wants to eliminate the legitimacy of the Muslim Brotherhood by banning it, but it is well known that no one can eliminate the Muslim Brotherhood and their ideas, even by using tanks and guns.”

Yousry pointed out that he is seeking mediation between the conflicting parties to maintain the country’s democratic legitimacy and to push the army out of politics in order to protect Egypt from inner conflicts, noting that the military’s insistence on imposing a de facto authority will not lead to stability in Egypt, especially when the legitimacy supporters also continue to insist on refusing the military regime.

The former ambassador said he supports democratic legitimacy and ousted President Mohamed Morsi, but that there is a need to come up with a consensus agreement for solving the current crisis that includes the return of the 2012 Constitution and President Morsi, after which point the different factions can negotiate over everything.

Yusri concluded that: “It is necessary for the military to leave the political sphere and to hold the police and army officers who are responsible for the killing, wounding or torturing of activists accountable for their actions,” adding that there are a lot of documents that incriminate them.
