Armed group kidnap Jordanian ambassador to Libya

The Jordanian ambassador to Libya was kidnapped by masked gunmen in Tripoli, the Libyan Ministry of International Cooperation and Foreign Affairs announced today.


Official sources in the ministry said that Fawaz Al-Aytan was kidnapped from the centre of the capital, Tripoli. The sources said two cars without plates led by unknown masked people attacked the ambassador and his driver.

One of the cars, the sources said, was BMW. The masked assailants kidnapped the ambassador and led him to an unknown destination.

According to the sources, a quick shootout took place during the abduction and the ambassador’s driver was shot twice and is now receiving treatment in hospital.

The ministry said that it immediately made contact with different parties and government departments to find out the whereabouts of the ambassador and the identity of the kidnappers.
