April 18, 2014 at 9:23 am

The Cairo Criminal Court resumed Monday the trial of former President Mohamed Morsi and 14 Muslim Brotherhood leaders and former presidency officials in the so-called “Itihadiya” case.

Monday’s session is the 14th session in the trial, and the fourth closed session held without media coverage after the judge decided to ban media from attending. The trial has started since November 4, 2013.

The court is scheduled to resume hearings from prosecution witnesses in a confidential session.

The defendants, 7 of them are tried in absentia, arrived at the court room and were placed in a soundproof glass cage.

In Sunday’s session, the court heard the testimony of former Minister of Interior General Ahmed Gamal El-Din, who served under Morsi.

In today’s session, the court will hear the testimonies of Colonel Seif ElDin Zaghlool (Sheriff of Heliopolis Police Headquarters) and two police officers.

The defendants in the Itihadiya case are charged with incitement to kill 3 opposition protesters outside Itihadiya presidential palace on December 5 2012. At least 8 Morsi supporters were shot dead in the same incident, but the court eliminated their names from the case, according to leaked documents broadcast on Al-Jazeera.
