Senior Lebanese politicians: Assad is suffering from paranoia

May 3, 2014 at 2:48 pm

The leader of the Lebanese Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) Walid Jumblatt said that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is suffering from paranoia and Syria is heading to “complete disintegration.”

He said that after the destruction of Iraq, it is Syria’s turn. “If we liked Al-Assad [the father] or not, he had built a strong Syria,” he said, “but Al-Assad the son, destroyed it.”

Therefore, he added, only three powers remained in the Middle East: Israel, Iran and Turkey.

“Fighting in Syria is a strategic mistake,” he said. “I have been always saıd that the gun of resistance has to be redirected.”

He insisted that the war is run by Iran. “The issue is bigger than us – Lebanese,” he said, “the war starts in Iran, passes across Syria and ends in Lebanon.”
