Abu Marzouk in Gaza for reconciliation efforts

The international spokesperson of Hamas Hossam Badran said that the visit by Moussa Abu Marzouk to Gaza “comes in the framework of efforts to end Palestinian division”, Quds Net reported.

Badran explained that Abu Marzouk has been in charge of the reconciliation file for a long time and is the most capable of overseeing it now.

Badran also viewed Abu Marzouk’s visit as an opportunity to discuss internal Hamas issues and the overall conditions of the Palestinian people.

Responding to a question on whether Abu Marzouk had a message from Egyptian authorities to Hamas, Badran said: “it’s too early to discuss the details of the visit. It comes in the framework of implementing Palestinian reconciliation away from the relations between Hamas and Egypt.”

Badran reaffirmed that Hamas’s position regarding reconciliation is a unified one. He expressed hopes that the meetings between Hamas and Ramallah delegation would lead to positive results.

Abu Marzouk arrived Monday morning to Gaza through the Rafah border crossing to attend reconciliation meetings between Hamas leaders and a delegation from Ramallah led by Azzam Al-Ahmad, the reconciliation coordinator of the Fatah movement.
