Al-Jazeera continues to boycott Egyptian television over illegal broadcasting

May 4, 2014 at 11:11 am

Chairman of Private Channels Department at the Egyptian Broadcasting Authority Abdel-Fattah Hassan said that Egyptian television authorities will not be able to broadcast the 2014 FIFA world cup games because Al-Jazeera, the exclusive broadcaster of the games, is boycotting Egyptian television.

According to Al-Masry Al-Youm website, Hassan said his authority is attempting to contact officials at Al-Jazeera but receive no answer.

In 2012, Egyptian television illegally broadcast a soccer game between Egypt and Ghana without obtaining a broadcasting permit from Al-Jazeera, which led to a $3 million penalty imposed on Egyptian television by FIFA.
