Algeria refuses to label Muslim Brotherhood 'terrorist'

May 4, 2014 at 11:15 am

Algerian media quoted diplomatic sources Sunday as saying that Algeria’s Foreign Minister turned down a request by Saudi Arabia and the UAE to label the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist.

According to CNN Arabia, the Algerian FM Ramtane Lamamra submitted Algeria’s response during his latest visit to the KSA.

Diplomatic sources revealed that Algeria advised the Saudis and Emiratis regarding treatment of Islamists, warning against bloody scenarios similar to the Algerian one. Other sources said that Algeria requested a list of convicted individuals with evidence that prove their involvement in violence, so that Algeria can list them as terrorists.

Despite media reports, however, no official statement has yet been issued in this regard from the Algerian or Saudi governments.
