Cleric: participation in presidential elections endorsement of Sisi's crimes

May 4, 2014 at 5:14 pm

A prominent anti-coup cleric, Sheikh Mohamed Abdel-Maksoud, said in an interview with Al-Jazeera that the results of the upcoming presidential elections are predetermined, and that participation would amount to an endorsement of crimes perpetrated by the coup leaders.

“Al-Sisi did not side with the people, but he conspired to bring down their elected leader Mohamed Morsi,” Abdelmaksoud said.

Abdelmaksoud added that Sisi “should be prosecuted for the blood he shed.”

Abdelmaksoud called on young people to adhere to peaceful protests despite the provocations.

He claimed that the bombings “are most likely plotted by the security agencies themselves.”
