Egypt: Salafist party endorses Al-Sisi for president

May 4, 2014 at 12:55 pm

The spokesperson of the Salafit Nour Party Nader Bakkar said Saturday his party will support the former defence minister Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for the end of May.

The Nour Party also supported the July 3 military coup against the elected president Mohamed Morsi.

According to Bakkar, the executive board of the party voted unanimously for Al-Sisi against his sole rival Hamdeen Sabbahi.

The decision has been made after meetings held with both candidates, he added.

In the 2012 presidential elections, the Nour party voted for ex-Brotherhood leader Abdel-Monem Abul Fotouh rather than Morsi.
