Egypt's al-Sisi hires lawyers in UK and US to defend him against massacre charges

A foreign relations official at the Freedom and Justice Party, Mohmed Soudan, said that Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and coup leaders have recently hired two firms in the UK and US to defend them against potential international prosecution.

Soudan’s statements came in contrast to Egyptian media claims that the International Criminal Court has discarded the complaints filed by Egyptian opposition wherein they accused the military coup leaders of committing war crimes against civilians.

In an interview with Al-Sharq channel Wednesday, Soudan said that ITN Solicitors, the London-based legal firm hired by the Muslim Brotherhood and the Anti-Coup Alliance, “is still in contact with the ICC to clarify evidence regarding brutal violations committed by the coup authorities.”

Furthermore, Soudan confirmed that the ICC continues to review the files submitted by the Freedom and Justice Party after the coup. The files include evidence that points to crimes against humanity and systematic massacres against civilians perpetrated by the Sisi-led coup regime. Soudan denied that the FJP’s complaint has been turned down, as some Egyptian media suggested.
