Hamas official says security services to stay in place until after election

The Palestinian technocrat government will work to unify state institutions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank but the security services in both areas will stay in place until after the proposed elections, a top Hamas official has said.

According to Mousa Abu Marzouk the movement will work with all segments of Palestinian society to build the nascent state in the right direction.

Speaking during a visit to the Ministry of the Interior in the Gaza Strip, the senior member of the political bureau praised the ministry’s achievements. Its successes, he said, are a result of collective efforts by society as a whole.

Abu Marzouk told ministry officials that their achievements are not partisan but due to all Palestinians. “That is apparent through the prevailing state of security in Gaza,” he added.
