Hamas: Reconciliation agreement 'turning point in history of Palestinians'

May 4, 2014 at 9:55 am

Fatah and Hamas have reached a “historic” agreement to end differences between them and form a unity government, they announced yesterday.

In a press release, Hamas spokesperson Fawzy Barhoom said that it is a “turning point in the history of the Palestinian people”.

“This is a correction and evaluation of the direction of the internal Palestinian situation,” he said, “and it is a base for a real national partnership.”

Barhoom reiterated that this is a “challenge to the enemies of the Palestinians and their unity and the biggest response to the occupation’s threats and crimes.”

Hamas leader and Palestinian Prime Minister in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh announced the reconciliation agreement and the end of internal Palestinian divisions yesterday afternoon.

Hamas and Fatah agreed to form a national unity government within five weeks and to carry out elections by January 2015.
