Meretz: Netanyahu's government is not interested in peace

May 4, 2014 at 11:14 am

The current Israeli government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu is not interested in peace, the leader of Israel’s Meretz Party Zahava Gal-on said yesterday.

Gal-on called on the government to release the fourth batch of the Palestinian prisoners and freeze construction of settlements.

In an interview with Radio Israel, Gal-on said Netanyahu’s government must regain its senses and put the new Palestinian government to the test to make sure that it is committed to the Quartet’s conditions.

Opposition leader and Member of the Knesset Yitzhak Herzog of the Labour Party called on Netanyahu to “initiate a comprehensive and courageous offer” to Mahmoud Abbas.

He wrote in a post on his Facebook page: “The situation is volatile and very sensitive and we must not take irreversible and potentially harmful steps.”
