Syrian Opposition: Terrorist groups were made by Assad's regime to justify its presence in power

The occupation of freed areas by terrorist groups is based on strengthening Bashar Al-Assad’s regime in these areas, Syrian National Coalition spokesman Louay Safi said yesterday.

Safi said that the group were setup by Assad’s regime “to replace it in these areas. Their objective is to prevent national forces from taking control in the areas that are out of Al-Assad’s control.”

In the statement that was made available by the press section of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, Safi noted that these groups’ unbalanced behaviour in the region constitutes direct support for Al-Assad. It is the Al-Assad regime that oversaw the making of terrorist groups in order to distract the world from the voice of the real revolutionaries and give the impression that Al-Assad’s regime is the best of the worst in the regime, he explained.

Safi criticised the election that Al-Assad plans to hold so as to get himself re-elected, describing it as a farce. Through the elections, Al-Assad is directing a message “not to Syrians, but to the international community. He is trying to legitimise his presence in power.

“The most painful aspect of this farce is that it will take place amid an atmosphere of massacres, murder and barrel bombs launched by Al-Assad’s regime against Syrians. It is unfortunate that this regime that imposes itself by force, through terrorising civilians, is using elections to convey a message to Western countries while it is using guns and explosive barrels to convey a message to the electorate.”
