Scuffles broke out between supporters of the two rival presidential candidates in the Egyptian governorate of Gharbeya Monday, Aswat Masriya website reported.

As soon as leftist presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi arrived in Mahalla city, supporters of his rival candidate ex-army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi staged a demonstration in front of the headquarters of the Popular Current Party to which Sabbahi is affiliated.

The Sisi suporters raised pictures of their candidate, chanting hostile slogans against Sabbahi.

According to an eyewitness quoted by Reuters, members of Sisi campaign intercepted the car convoy of Sabbahi in an attempt to prevent it from passing, which led to scuffles between rival supporters, each tore the pictures of the other candidate.

Eventually police intervened and helped Sabbahi convoy to move away from the headquarters of the party.
