The Egyptian Observatory for Rights and Freedoms said in its new report that in the month of April alone, approximately 1,923 anti-coup detainees have been sentenced to a total of 14,977 years in prison.

The report added that in the same month, 683 defendants have been sentenced to death, while 37 others had their death sentences confirmed by the court.

Moreover, bails totalled EGP 649,000, while fines totalled EGP 13,115,000.

The Observatory said it aims at providing a truthful picture of the injustice suffered by political prisoners. It stressed that fines and bails constitute one form of looting the money of detainees and their families without legal basis.
