Members of the defence team of the ousted President Mohamed Morsi said Friday that “his spirits are high” and that he is “impressed by the steadfastness of his supporters.”

In exclusive statements to the London-based Al-Araby Al-Gadid website, a lawyer in Morsi’s defence team said that Morsi is closely following the situation on the ground, and that he is “very optimistic about victory.”

The lawyer complained of difficulty in communication with Morsi during trials due to the “strict blockade” imposed on him by authorities.

Another lawyer, Ossama al-Helw, told Al-Araby Al-Gadid that Morsi is is good health. However, he criticised the fact that his team is unable to meet with Morsi, which is “contrary to all legal norms.”

Al-Helw said he cannot provide an assessment of how Morsi is treated in Borg Al-Arab Prison because they are not allowed to visit him.
