Jailed Brotherhood leader facing death sentence: Freedom requires sacrifice

May 12, 2014 at 10:39 am

General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Badie said from his court cage today that “no one can exclude the entire Egyptian population”.

Monday’s trial is dubbed as “the Rabaa operations room”.

In remarks he made after arriving at the court, Badie stressed that the “peaceful revolution continues”, and that “no one can exclude the entire Egyptian people.”

Badie added: “We were born free… our freedom requires sacrifice.”

Badie was among hundreds of Egyptian political prisoners sentenced to death in a speedy sham trial condemned by world leaders and rights groups.

The death sentences, however, are still pending the approval of the Mufti.

In February, the Egyptian prosecution referred Badie and 50 other Brotherhood officials to trial on charges of “forming an operations room in Rabaa with the aim of confronting the state.” The Rabaa sit-in has been violently dispersed by security forces leaving thousands dead and injured.
