Egypt's Shafik didn't vote for Sisi

Sources close to the Dubai-based ex-Mubarak Prime Minister and 2012 presidential candidate Ahmed Shafik said that he did not vote for Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi in Friday’s expatriate polls.

According to a report by Mesryoon website, Emirati pressures were behind Shafik’s decision to take part in elections despite his earlier determination to boycott. Emirati officials warned Shafik of potential “negative ramifications” of his decision. Accordingly, he took part but nullified his ballot by ticking names of both candidates.

Relations between Shafik and al-Sisi are reportedly strained due to Sisi’s refusal to announce Shafik as the legitimate winner in the 2012 presidential elections where he came second after Mohamed Morsi.
