Pro-coup media disbelief at success of Egyptian election boycott

May 27, 2014 at 4:37 pm

Pro-coup news anchors were in disbelief as reports came in that few Egyptians were taking part in the elections. As reports came in suggesting that there was little enthusiasm for the elections amongst the general public, the anchors were shocked at the effectives of the boycott organised by the Egyptian anti-coup protestors. Both in Egypt and those in the diaspora called on Egyptians to boycott the Presidential elections, which Sisi is expected to win. The Egyptian regime did not expect the boycott to take off, but as it did so announced an extra day of voting and potential penalties of 500 Egyptian pound for those that did not vote.

News anchors had expected to report on successful elections across the country, but were surprised to learn that the boycott had in fact taken off.
