Libyan insurgents: We will not recognise the government of Meitik

May 28, 2014 at 10:13 am

The head of the militants controlling oil ports in eastern Libya, Ibrahim Jathran, yesterday said he does not recognise the new government headed by Ahmed Meitik, pointing out that the agreement aiming to end the blockade of ports may be threatened.

Jathran, who wants more autonomy for the eastern region in the framework of a united authority, had agreed with Meitik’s predecessor to open the ports controlled by his men gradually and help resume oil exports.

Jathran did not speak directly about the oil agreement, but indicated in a statement broadcast by a television channel run by his movement, that any agreement is threatened should Meitik become prime minister.
