Al-Sisi campaign claims winning 92.9% of votes after counting 22% of ballots

A statement by the campaign of Egyptian presidential candidate Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi claimed he garnered 92.9 per cent of votes after counting ballots in 3006 out of 13,900 polling stations Wednesday.

His sole rival, Hamdeen Sabbahi, got 3.1 per cent, according to the same statement.

Sabbahi’s campaign merely reported on allegations of irregularities that marred the electoral process, but did not monitor results.

The Facebook page of Sabbahi’s campaign provided examples of fraud, claiming “some voters in Suez governorate found that others have voted on their behalf.”

The military’s candidate Al-Sisi is expected to win by a landslide in an elections widely criticized as lacking in fairness and legitimacy.

Supporters of Al-Sisi celebrated his expected vitory Wednesday evening after the end of the last day of voting, but before all results were known.
