Israeli forces storm Palestinian newspaper offices in Ramallah

May 29, 2014 at 2:26 pm

Israeli forces stormed the offices of Al Ayyam newspaper in Ramallah and confiscated the “Palestine“, “Al Risalah” and “Al Istiqlal” newspapers. The Palestinian Ministry of Information described the actions as a “crime” and a continuation of Israel’s bullying of the Palestinian media.

The Ministry of Information noted that the offices had been stormed and threatened against further newspaper printing, under the pretext of incitement against Israel. The ministry considered the acts to be hostile and criminal and as part of a wider campaign by Israel to target the media and journalists in Palestine.

The Ministry of Information said they were “very proud of the Palestinian journalists, who continue carrying out their professional and human duty undeterred by the Israeli occupation practices and intimidation. The Ministry further reaffirms support for Al Ayyam newspaper and highly appreciates its national and professional role it has played since the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority.”

The Ministry of Information called upon the International Federation of Journalists to pressure Israel to stop “terrorising our media and to hold the criminals accountable for their crimes, including the crimes of terror, detention and targeting Palestinian journalists and media outlets.”
