May 29, 2014 at 10:32 am

A Lebanese court yesterday rejected a request from Tunisia to confiscate funds held in a Lebanese bank account that belongs to the wife of Tunisia’s ousted president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

Beirut’s Court of Cessation overturned the ruling issued by the Court of Civil Appeals which approved the Tunisian Magistrates Court’s decision to confiscate the assets belonging to Laila Trabelsi.

The Court of Cessation’s ruling accepted an objection that had been filed by Trabelsi against the confiscation of her money.

Popular protests that erupted in Tunisia in 2010 resulted in the ousting of the Ben Ali who now resides in Saudi Arabia.
