Egypt's Sabahi calls for annulment of third day votes

May 31, 2014 at 10:29 am

The electoral campaign of presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabahi demanded the exclusion of the votes cast on the third day of elections, citing electoral fraud.

In a statement Friday, the campaign said it lodged a complaint with the Presidential Elections Commission, questioning the validity of official results, and citing irregularities that marred the electoral process.

The violations included, according to the statement, campaigning inside polling stations by Al-Sisi supporters, which violated electoral silence regulations. It added that officials at polling stations mobilized citizens to vote for Al-Sisi.

The campaign considered the extension of polling days to a third day as null and void, and called for repealing the ballots of the third day.
