Meshaal to visit Russia this month

Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal is expected to visit Russia this month, Palestine newspaper quoted the group’s spokesman Husam Badran saying yesterday.

Speaking to the newspaper, Badran said: “This visit is scheduled based on an invitation by Moscow and it comes in the framework of Hamas’ external relations policy.”

Badran reiterated that Hamas’ vision is based on recruiting any possible support that serves the Palestinian issue at any stage.

In this visit, according to Badran, both sides will discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian issue and the Israeli violations against the Palestinians. Badran did not mention which Russian representative will meet Meshaal.

“Meshaal’s scheduled visit was preceded by a meeting between Hamas’ leadership and the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov that took place in Doha in May,” Badran said.

The official denied reports that Meshaal will visit Iran soon. He said that the relationship with Tehran had not halted so no effort is needed to fix it.

“The relationship between Hamas and Tehran was not halted and there is not scheduled visit for Meshaal to Tehran,” he said. He called on the media to depend on credible sources while reiterating that relations between both sides are improving.
